NORDEN vol. 04
Iceland is a land of pagan legends with incomparable landscapes full of mystery, and with a popular belief deeply rooted in the existence of the so-called “hidden people.” From the genetic point of view, it is more Scandinavian than Scandinavia itself. The isolation in which the island has been plunged for hundreds of years has caused geneticists around the world to study “the purity of their race”, although there are those who define it as a “great inbreeding”.
This particularity may be one of the main reasons why Iceland is one of the countries with the highest prevalence of autism in the world. On the other hand, with a population of 330,000 people, only two children are born on average every year with Down syndrome.
NORDEN is a long-term documentary project that seeks to address in depth the hidden face of the Nordic countries through the concept of silence. A document about the fragility of things that are silent, and with which we latently live.
